Long Haul Flight Essentials: How to Get the Best Sleep Possible
The number one thing you want to have on a long haul flight? Great sleep! Here are our tried and true favorites (as you’ll see in the video!) Sorry to brag, but I often get 5-6 hours or more on flights. Here are the secrets:
Travel Pillow
This TRAVEL PILLOW is different from any other you’ve tried because it hooks onto your headrest, keeping your head/neck upright and relaxed.
If you don’t listen to anything else in this post, you must try this pillow! All the other pillows out there rely on internal structure to keep your neck upright, and they never work. This thing actually works like a charm. And it’s affordable.
Eye Mask
Next up, this EYE MASK is actually comfortable. Your eyelashes won’t scratch against it, and nd it blocks out 100% of light. When I drop this over my eyes, I immediately start getting sleepy.
Foot Hammock
This FOOT HAMMOCK is a game changer. As a short-average person (5’4”), I’ve never been comfortable with my leg position on a flight. But once you started using this adjustable hammock, which you just throw over the tray table in front of you, you are basically in the fetal position. Sleep comes SO much easier in the fetal position.
Headphones / Ear Plugs
Fourth and final item that you should invest in … good EAR PLUGS for uninterrupted sleep. If you do everything else we’ve recommended and you have fallen asleep, but you wake up with every overhead announcement or every time the carts come around, then none of this matters. You won’t be getting good continuous sleep.
Try these if you’re looking for an inexpensive but reusable SOFT EAR PLUG option
Long Haul Flight Essentials: What to wear on a long-haul flight
Travel Sets for Women
Simply put, I’ve tried and returned so many travel sets from Amazon, but THIS SET IS GOLD. It’s comfy but still looks put together, and even if you go into nice lounges, you’ll fit right in.
It doesn’t wrinkle, and it could totally double as pajamas at your destination if you’re going somewhere cold. I get compliments every time I wear it, and I highly recommend!
Travel Socks
Once you’re on your long haul flight and getting snuggled up, you won’t want to wear your shoes, but PLEASE don’t be barefoot on the plane with smelly feet. That’s just not nice to the others.
I recommend you keep a comfy and fluffy PAIR OF SOCKS in your carryon bag, remove your shoes, and slip these right on, almost like slippers.
Travel Shoes
Next, let’s talk about shoes. You want to wear something that can expand to fit your feet, which are likely to get bloated or swollen after the flight. Something with laces is best.
Here are the SHOES I would recommend, as they go with everything, are easy to get on and off in the plane, and are great walking shoes for once you’ve gotten to your destination. I love these and have repurchased, that’s how good they are.
Long Haul Flight Essentials: Final Accessories You Can’t Go Without
WIPES are pretty self explanatory. You’ll want to wipe down you seat, headrest, tray table, seatbelt, etc.
BLUETOOTH ADAPTOR for the screen allows you (and even your travel buddy) to watch shows without the using those airline headphones, whose long cords get all tangled up when you’re going to the bathroom.
AUDIBLE SUBSCRIPTION is a great way to download books ahead of your flight, making your flight as enjoyable as possible. If you’re not able to sleep on the plane, might as well enjoy a great novel!
CABLE & ELECTRONICS ORGANIZER – the truth is, the more organized your seat area is, the less likely you are to lose things, leave them behind, or step on valuable items. You’ll be more relaxed and enjoy your flight all the more. A good organizer for your headphones, chargers, power banks, etc, will help a lot in this sense.
CARRYON LIQUIDS CASE will keep your most important in flight essentials – lotions, mists, toothpaste, etc – organized and easy to access.
CARRYON PILL CONTAINER is critical to helping organize pills you might need in flight – think anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, cough drops, etc. If you need something suddenly, you don’t want to be rummaging through all 4 of your bags in the aisle.
WATER BOTTLE – hydration is critical in-flight, and on long haul flights, the carts come around with water pretty infrequently. You’ll want a reusable water bottle with you that you fill up in the airport prior to your flight. Something that can keep your liquids cold.
FACIAL MIST – speaking of hydration, a nice facial mist helps you wake up and feel refreshed after sleeping on a plane, hopefully right before you land!
We hope these 15 long haul flight essentials have been helpful! From getting great sleep, to being comfortable aboard the plane, to having all the most critical accessories, you’ll be set up for a great flight!
Buen viaje!
