The Roseate Edinburgh Location?
The Roseate Hotel Edinburgh is located in the West End, near Haymarket Station, about a 25-30 minute walk to the city center and all the major tourist attractions. Personally, I loved that it was a little outside the city center … the area was much quieter and felt more authentic and residential! The walk downtown was very safe, clean, and a straight shot.
Not a huge walker? Not a problem! There’s a tram stop very close to the hotel that takes you directly into the heart of the city!
What is there to do around the Roseate Hotel?
If you love running, cycling, or going for beautiful walks … this is the hotel for you. My favorite thing to do by the Roseate was to take the Water of Leith path! This is a long path, about 8-10 miles in total, that you can pick up just behind the hotel and walk through many beautiful areas like Dean Village and St. Bernard’s Well! These are absolutely stunning areas of the city that aren’t nearly as touristic, so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity!
There is also a major cycling path that connects near the hotel if you’re into that!
The Dunstane House Edinburgh
One of my favorite things about the hotel is the extremely atmospheric bar/restaurant/lounge area of the Dunstane House. With heavy tartan curtains, plush seating, and a dark wood bar, this space really hits the Scottish aesthetic perfectly.
Breakfast at the hotel is generous and delicious! I also had one dinner here, and absolutely loved my meal (I got the steak!) The presentation and flavors were 10/10, and I especially liked that they helped me to pick out a few great Scotch whiskeys to try. I am a whiskey novice, so this was extremely helpful.
They also included a welcome drink … given the early hour of my arrival, I got a specialty coffee!
How are the staff at the Roseate Hotel?
This is where the Roseate Hotel really shines. The staff are exceptional, and especially as a solo female traveler, I was thankful they went out of their way to make me comfortable.
When I checked in at 8:30am, they made every effort to get me into my room by 9:30am, which was a wonderful surprise! Of course, they helped me with my bags in and out.
The concierge asked me upon checking in what my plans and travel preferences were, then proceeded to email me a wonderful itinerary catered to my interests (bookshops, vintage shopping, museums) within the hour.
As I mentioned, they were happy to set up a whisky tasting for me at the bar, and the entire bar and restaurant staff were lovely.
How are the rooms at the Roseate Hotel Edinburgh?
Ok, here’s where we get a little critical, but also understanding. This is a hotel situated in a 160 year old building! I chose it specifically for the atmospheric and authentic ambience … which this hotel has in spades! And the bathrooms are relatively recently renovated. But, as you might expect, some features like the carpets and the light fixtures are quite old and seem a little worn out. There also isn’t any closet, and you instead hang your clothing on a few provided hooks and hangers from the wall.
Since I was solo traveling, I chose one of the smallest hotel rooms. This was perfectly fine for me, and I loved its charming atmosphere.
Is the Roseate Hotel Edinburgh worth the price?
Ultimately, a hotel with this level of food, drink, charm, and customer service would be significantly more expensive if it were located in the city center. So – if you don’t mind taking the tram or a nice walk to the major tourist zones – yes, I would absolutely say that the Roseate Hotel Edinburgh is a great bargain for the price!
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
