Read on for the perfect 2 Day Itinerary in Leros, Greece!
Is Leros Worth Visiting?
Absolutely, YES, Leros is worth visiting! Our biggest reason for recommending Leros?? The amazing sunsets and harbors! The sunsets we saw here rivaled those of any Greek island we’ve visited, and that includes Santorini. Also, the island is very safe, easy to navigate, boasts unique history, and has some stunning natural beaches.
We were shocked by how many yachts we saw in Leros, as we had no idea it was such a popular island among wealthy travelers before we went there. But now we can totally see why Leros is such an up and coming island!
Overall, Leros is still a relatively undiscovered gem in the dodecanese, and it is TOTALLY worth visiting for 48 hours!
How to Get to Leros?
Flights to Leros
There is a small municipal airport on Leros for domestic flights from Athens.
Ferry to Leros
You can more easily get to Leros by ferry, which would either arrive in Agia Marina or Lakki. This is what we did! We took a ferry from Samos to Leros, arriving in Agia Marina and departing from Lakki.
If you’re looking to book ferry tickets in the dodecanese, check out Ferry Scanner. We purchased all our tickets last summer through Ferry Scanner and had no problems on over a dozen ferries!

Do You Need to Rent a Car in Leros?
There are actually a ton of taxis on Leros, so renting your own vehicle isn’t strictly necessary, but we decided to rent one as we only had a short time and wanted to see a lot!
We rented through Alidian Rentals, and we highly recommend them! Our car was in great condition and quite new. Our agent communicated with us easily through WhatsApp while we were on the island, answering questions for us. She also met us promptly with our rental car as soon as we got off our ferry and helped us return it at the Lakki marina before our departing ferry.
Leros Hotels?
Like any Greek island, there are so many hotel options to consider. We stayed at Tony’s Beach Hotel and gave it an excellent review!
Here’s. why we loved Tony’s Beach Hotel!! There is tons of shaded parking, which is rare in Greece. It is beach front with comfortable chairs and shade. The room was recently renovated, very clean and comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally helpful with recommendations for our trip! There is also a lovely pool and beach towel service provided!
The hotel is located on Vromolithos beach which is so calm and quiet. Even when the winds on the island were so bad that ferries were being cancelled, we were STILL able to swim comfortably in the calm waters in front of our hotel!
Breakfast and coffees weren’t included however. There was an additional charge per person for any of snacks, coffee, breakfast, etc.
All in all, if we return to Leros, we will absolutely stay at Tony’s Beach Hotel again, and we highly recommend it to you for your Leros adventure!
Leros Greece 2-Day Itinerary: Day 1
Spend Day 1 exploring Lakki and the northern part of the island!
Stroll along the Lakki waterfront and visit the nearby War Museum. If it’s open, you can also drop by the Caserma Botanic Garden (but make sure to call ahead to check hours … when we were visiting Leros they only offered tours on Fridays!)
Next, head north to Blefoutis Beach and have lunch at Artemis Taverna right along the waterfront. We loved our meal there – whole fish catch of the day, Greek salad, greens – and found it to be reasonably priced! Then, you can relax at the beach, which is also a quaint harbor protected from the crazy winds.
Once you’ve had your fill, head slightly more north towards a second beach – Agia Kioura Beach. This is a completely undeveloped area … no chairs, bathrooms, or restaurants. However, the beach itself is very picturesque! Definitely a local gem. Wondering what to bring to Greece in order to enjoy some of these more rugged beaches? Check out our Expert’s Travel Packing list for Greece.
After you’re done swimming, drive south to explore Agios Isidoros. This church is SO COOL! Located on an a small rock connected to the island by a walkway, this tiny church is such a photogenic jewel! Be careful, the walkway is a bit slippery and the waves will crash over you as you approach the church! The actual church itself is charming, and the surrounding courtyard gives nice views of the bay.
For Dinner, you can’t go wrong in or around Lakki. We were celebrating a special occasion, so we ate at Serza! This relatively new restaurant serves a modern take on Greek staples and boasts an incredible wine list. We LOVED our meal here. It was definitely a more expensive meal by Greek island standards (€70 for two apps, two entrees, two glasses of wine), but it was one of the best meals of our entire summer. This is an amazing, undiscovered gem!
Leros Greece 2-Day Itinerary: Day 2
Start off your day swimming at Vromolithos Beach. After a refreshing morning swim, walk to Panteli Beach. You take the main road up the hill away from the beach (keeping the water on your right), and once you’re at the top of the hill, start winding your way down towards the water through the town. You’ll eventually find a pedestrian road that is pictured below which will lead you straight to the heart of Panteli Beach!
If in doubt, just follow the yachts and catamarans! Panteli beach is a small beachfront that is STACKED with restaurants, beach bars, and cute shops. There is also a cute little port that you can walk along. We spent several hours here just exploring and meandering through this area.
We specifically recommend Pirofani Tavern for lunch and Sorbet Gelateria by Paradosiako for dessert.
Next, head up to the Kastro (the castle that crowns the island of Leros) for more exciting history! You can either walk up via several hundred steps if you’re feeling active, or you can drive straight there.
The actual Castle closes at 7:30pm, but make sure to stick around outside the castle walls for sunset views! We watched sunset from the castle and also from Prophet Elias church just down the road from the castle. This was truly one of the most memorable sunsets we’ve had in Greece!!
Another option if you want to combine sunset and a light dinner would be Harris. Just down the road from Kastro, you’ll find the 5 windmills of Leros! The first of them has been turned into Harris, which serves yummy cocktails and a limited menu of large bar snacks, charcuterie boards, etc. These apps were large, and we made an entire dinner out of just a few of them.
Pro tip: If you want a table right along the edge of the restaurant for the best views, you need to call and reserve in advance.
We hope you enjoyed this post all about the Perfect 2 Day Itinerary in Leros Greece!
