There are so many amazing beaches in Samos, but one of our favorites is Kaladakia Beach. This beach is on the southern part of the island. If you’re coming from the north, the GPS may direct you to a dirt road. If it does, be sure to turn around, as this road is hazardous and while we’ve gotten to the beach using this road, we don’t recommend it. It may take a few extra minutes, but the paved road is much smoother and safer.
Once you find the parking lot, there’s a short walk down to the beach – maybe about 55 meters. The beach is small, so be sure to get there early to secure some lounging beach chairs. The chairs cost a small amount, but well worth the cost of admission.
What’s special about Kaladakia beach is the pristine water and the cave to the left of the beach. On a good day, when the sun hits just right, the water inside the cave lights up like a glow-in-the-dark t shirt. It’s just an amazing spectacle. You can climb on top of the cave and have an aerial view of the beach as well. Of course use caution and always wear grippy water shoes. Larry has done some cliff jumping from the rocks here. The water is not incredibly deep, so use the utmost caution and make sure you jump out if you’re feeling adventurous.
In addition to the natural beauty, Kaladakia has a nice snack bar, where you can order refreshments and drinks. We always enjoy a fredo expresso or Mythos beer.
Our favorite part of Kaladakia Beach is the colder water. For whatever reason, the water is a bit colder than other beaches around Samos, but once you acclimate, it leaves your body feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
For all these reasons, Kaladakia is a must visit if you’re looking for a more quaint beach.
